Prompt: Write about a conversation that changed you.

 Prompt Response: A conversation that changed me was the conversation I had with my dad the day before he moved away to Florida for work. I was happy that he was getting a better paying job but was crushed when I realized I wouldn't see him as often as I used to. Summary: Worked on Evidence worksheet. Reflection: I learned that A good Argumentative essay has evidence backed by facts, observations and experiences. A good Argumentative essay also accommodates for an opposing view point that one might have about the topic.

Prompt: Write about something that you believed as a child.

 Prompt Response: Somethings that I believed as a child were, The Boogeyman being real, Santa Claus being real and that there was a monster under my bed at night. Summary: Began working on Lesson two image vocabulary assignment. Reflection: I learned about new vocabulary words such as antipathy and blandishment. Knowing these new words will better help me in my writing and creating more eloquent and fluid writings as I continue my academic career.

Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome.

 Prompt Response: A fear that I have overcome is my fear of the movie "Frosty the Snowman". When I was younger and watched the movie for the first time I was scared to death of Frosty and I don't know why. Now I see the movie and just shrug it still kinda creeps me out because of the animation but it doesn't scare me. Summary: Started worksheet over claim and opposing claims. Reflection: I learned that an effective argument requires a counter argument to an opposing claim. Knowing this will better help me as we progress through this topic and my academic career.

Prompt: As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

 Prompt Response: The topic I think I will have to debate most often will be politics as it is a heavily debated topic in the U.S. Summary: Complete notes over Arguments and began notes on Claims. Reflection: I learned that there are 3 different types of claims. Knowing this information will make it easier to differentiate between them when analyzing arguments.

Prompt: Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

 Prompt Response: A truth that I was afraid to accept was the fact that when I was younger and found out that Santa Claus wasn't real and it was my parents placing presents under the tree the entire time. Summary: Completed notes over the parts of an argument. Reflection: I learned that Arguments must appeal to 3 different factors. They must appeal to a person logos, ethos and pathos. Knowing this will help me better write arguments as we progress through the year.

Prompt: Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

 Prompt Response: I don't think there was time I've been unfairly judged, anytime i was judged for something it was because I deserved it. Summary: Completed Common lit assignment. Reflection: I learned that fear and stories share many similarities. Both are based off of your imagination and have a beginning, middle, and end, as well as using multiple instances of figurative language.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

 Prompt Response: If I were learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the first time I would be curious about the traditional clothing and foods that they would have during celebrations or holidays. Summary: Completed notes on how to effectively write an essay. Reflection: I learned that brainstorming about your topic and creating subtopics about it help you effectively write an essay. Knowing this information will better help me as I progress through my academic career.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

 Prompt Response: The presentation that caught my attention was Beckett Shillig's. I enjoyed the format of the poster and the poem. Summary: Presented personal poem posters and took notes over the writing process. Reflection: The poems that were viewed today very inspiring. In each poem I felt the way each person felt through their writing.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

 Prompt Response: One time a friend invited me to their birthday party and I didn't really know anyone there so I just sat alone. It made me feel really out of place and when I told them about the apologized for how they made me feel and I think it made our friendship stronger. Summary: Completed Common lit assignment: 'The Interlopers". Reflection: After reading "The Interlopers" it made me think about some things. If people can change and band together in dire life or death situations, then why can't they do without those circumstances? If people desire to change why must they be threatened to do so?

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

 Prompt Response: The three words I think I will use the most in speaking and writing this semester are Ambiguous- because of its many uses, Aesthetic- because of its meaning and altruistic- because of its meaning. Summary: Wrote vocabulary and did exercise 1 and 3 from lesson 1 of the college bound book. Reflection: The vocabulary given to us today helped expand my knowledge of words. It taught me new words I had never heard before and words I knew but didn't truly understand the meanings of.

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

 Prompt Response: What I love most about the Lakeside community is how diverse it is. I show off school spirit by coming to school everyday ready to learn. My favorite Homecoming event was Character Day. Summary: Completed test over Lawrence Ferlinghetti's "Constantly Risking Absurdity" Reflection: Homecoming week is a week to go out and show your school spirit. You show it by participating and encouraging others to participate. Showing off your school spirit shows how much you enjoy learning and coming to school, as well as how much you enjoy interacting within your community.

 Prompt Response: The learning method I enjoy the most is class discussions. I enjoy these the most because it lets me compare my thinking to the thinking of my peers. Summary: Finished our poems and began working on Poem Poster. Reflection: I learned that Adobe Express offers animated characters that I can use in digital presentations. Knowing this information will assist me whenever I have digital presentations as this is a very helpful and useful tool.Though it may take some time for the program to process your audio, it is an invaluable tool for you to use to enhance on your presentations.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

 Prompt Response: The aspect I enjoy the most is the brainstorming aspect. I enjoy this part because it helps me think about the things I want to write about and how I want to write it. Summary: Worked on creating our poems in class. Reflection: I enjoy writing poetry occasionally and our current lesson is making that passion of writing grow. As we learn more about the creative process of poetry I become more and more intrigued by it.

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

 Prompt Response: When I was around 10 years old I almost had to get stitches. I was playing with a few friends at a playground and we were playing tag. I was standing next to the monkey bars and thought it would be a good idea to spin in a circle and make myself dizzy. So I did and ended up running full speed into the metal monkey bars creating a gash on my forehead where blood was gushing out. My parents rushed over to help me and after I was done bleeding thought they might have to take me to the ER but I was fine and ended up never getting stitches but learned to never run full speed into the monkey bars ever again. Summary: Analyzed Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity" in class. Reflection: Today I learned how poets and writers are quite similar to more dangerous careers. In the case of the poem we read in class, it shows how both Acrobats and Poets are constantly Risking their livelihood in pursuit of their careers. While Acrobats are Risking ...

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

 Prompt Response: If I were to choose a song to describe my life it would "Full Moon Full Life" by Azumi Takahashi and Lotus Juice, because of how the song is constantly saying how to live life to the fullest and not worry about how it will end. It drives me to want to experience things and make connections. Summary: Completed Dickinson Soundtrack Assignment. Reflection: This was a very thought provoking assignment for me. It showed me how a lot of poems and songs are similar in the sense of their overall messages. I used to think poems were really profound and songs were more laid-back but taking the time to draw a connection between to the showed how they are one in the same rather than being two different things.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

 Prompt Response: If I were to compose a poem about one aspect of my life, the topic it would fall under the death topic. My overall life's message would be to enjoy each day to the fullest since you never know when it may end. Summary: Analyzed 3 of Emily Dickinson's poems in class. Reflection: I learned a lot in this lesson today. It helped me better understand how to effectively analyze and break down poems.

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

 Prompt Response: So far the class has been going pretty OK for me. I haven't really struggled with the work so far and have been doing quite well on the assigned work. Summary: Began working on Logic over Emotion assignment. Reflection: Today in class we went over a poem by Emily Dickinson and we broke it down to get a better understanding of it. I felt that I better learned and understood the poem this way and will most likely continue to read poems like this as we progress through the unit.
