This is the poster that I created for my American Literature Final.

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt Response: When I look back at myself during the beginning of the first semester, I can see how much I have grown and changed. The thing I enjoyed the most in the class were all of the group assignments we got to do, it allowed me to express my ideas and opinions with the people around me. The aspect of the course I connected most with was poetry and it allowed me to view others perceptions of the same material. One area I feel I need more support in is understanding poetry as sometimes I misinterpret the meaning of the poems I read.

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt Response: One tradition that is important to me is our annual Christmas Eve Party. It's one of the only times of the year when my entire family can meet up with each other. We eat a lot of food, play a ton of fun games and all around just have a great time. To me that little night of fun We have makes me really happy every year and i'm glad that I get the chance to experience it.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

Prompt Response: The holidays have not really changed too much for me as I have grown older. Compared to my childhood nothing has changed between then and now as we continue the same traditions that we did back then.  Summary: Completed Lesson 6 vocabulary. Reflection: I learned a plethora of new vocabulary words. Knowing these words will enhance my writing.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response: Something I've outgrown but still miss is being carried by my mother. I miss the feeling of warmth that I felt when I was carried on her arms. It gave me comfort knowing she was there for me. Summary: Worked on Poetry Final poster. Reflection: I learned that people gain differing meanings from the same poem. Knowing this will better help me understand a person's opinion as I progress through life.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response: Something that I can not stop thinking about is the Holiday Break. The break will give me a chance to relax and not worry about school. It also gives me a chance to hangout with friends and family. Summary: Confirmed classes for next school year. Reflection: I learned that Lakeside offers a concurrent dual enrollment program. Knowing this will help me get ahead in my academic career.

Prompt: Post the picture of your cultural identity mask onto your blog. Write a reflection about the creation process of the mask or presenting it to the class.

Prompt Response: My mask went through a few design changes before I ended on this design. It took me a while but I realized that I wanted my mask to have a shattered design like the one shown to show how I am the sum of multiple different aspects of myself and not just one. Summary: Presented mask in class. Reflection: I learned that people are made of different aspects of themselves. No one person is the same and each person is made of the sum of their parts creating them as a whole.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response: The best gift that I have received was $300 in cash. It made me really happy because I got to choose my own gift. The gift I chose with my money was a brand new Nintendo Switch. Summary: Worked on cultural identity mask in class. Reflection: I learned that people are not defined by one trait but multiple traits. Knowing this will better help me understand people as I grow older.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response: The mask within the short film "Identity" represent how people try to hide away who they really are to fit in the crowd and because of their hiding it makes it harder for them to discover who they are as a person. One moment that stood out to me was the ending during which the girl takes off her mask and is shown to be happy with herself. This stood out to me because it shows how people can be happy and accept who they are and not worry about what other people think. The message of the film and Hughes' poem and the mask we are creating in class are all connected to one another, they all point to the idea of identity and how we are influenced by it. I want my mask to reveal more about myself as a person and how I view me. Summary: Annotated Langston Hughes' "I, Too" poem and watched the short film "Identity". Reflection: I learned that people hide away their identities behind a mask to fit in. People should never have to think that...

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response: I am most proud of my heritage because of everything I can learn about myself and the people who came before. Summary: Completed "We Real Cool" identity map. Reflection: I learned that people think illegal things are cool. I don't understand why they would think that but I guess it's the way of the world.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response: One time I was playing tag and I spun myself around till I was dizzy because I thought it would be fun, I then ran 'head first into a metal pole and opened a gash on my head that was just gushing out blood. After that incident I never did that again and realized how stupid the entire scenario was. Summary: Completed annotation of the poem "We Real Cool" Reflection: I learned that a lot of teenagers think really unsafe activities as cool. Knowing this will help me steer clear of their bad influences as I progress through life.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response: Over the break I slept a lot. Summary: Completed lesson 5 vocabulary Reflection: I learned the definition about vitriolic which means filled with bitter criticism or malice. Knowing this will better help me when I write as I continue to progress through my academic career.
